Pia's Education Mini-Conf Talk Available

Okay, so I actually found a moment to hook up the iPod. Pia's Tuesday arvo talk from the Education Mini-conf at linux.conf.au is now available on my Multimedia page. It is in .wav format and I haven't had a chance to change that yet. Not enough hours...

..I am already in trouble for not coming to bed!

Contestant number one...

Doesn't it make you want to make an appointment with a barber?

Linus and the Family

Linus Torvalds and the Bennett family

At linux.conf.au 2004 Hugh Blemings took a photo of my husband and I with Linus holding our three month old son Karl. It was a great shot. So now was the chance for another this time with Peter also. What do they say about working with children and animals?

Penguin Dinner

LCA2006 Penguin Dinner

The rack-mounted meal was fantastic! Food overall was great and the company was better. Can't comment on the wine :( (I don't drink). Was a very great night. Will display the book soon...

Rack Mounted Meals

Yes, our meals for the Penguin Dinner were rack mounted!

Waughs & Waughs

Jeff & Pia Waugh

So, I know that someone decided to email the sign to Pia and Jeff and sure it is interesting until you know the nature of the store. No, they do not retail Waughs. So, if you don't know Pia and Jeff (who doesn't right?) - I have labeled them for you.

Maddog - C21 Santa

Okay, so on both Monday lunch and Tuesday night we went out for dinner with Maddog and Karl had the opportunity to reacquaint himself as they hadn't seen each other since LCA 2004 (Karl was 3 months old). So after refreshing the relationship Karl was all hugs on Wednesday. So what makes Maddog the 21st century Santa? The beard certainly helps but it really comes from a story he has of his international travel story and being mistaken as Santa by children. You should ask him about it.

Maddog has so many beautiful stories from his ventures around the globe. It makes dinner talk so much more interesting :)

Chix Lunch

Linux Chix Lunch Dunedin 2006
Wednesday included a 'chix' lunch at the Curry Box. It was there we discussed what we do and our interests. Pia then refocused on what we feel we could do to encourage 'younger talented chicks' to become interested in IT rather than choosing Science (which leads only to teaching, on the most part, in Australia) and Mathematics degrees to start with.

So after solving all the problems of the world we returned to the Unilink and had a photo taken. Here tis!

LCA opening

LCA2006 Conference Open and Welcome
Damn acknowledgments! What did Mike think he was doing acknowledging me at the opening? Okay, so I worked hard. But you know what?

There are *so* many people that have made a huge effort. There should be lots of *hugs* for all organisers and helpers as well as their wives/partners and children. Anyway, the welcome to LCA was short and sweet once everything was set up :) I don't know whether the organisers felt a sense of relief at that point. I hope they did because the Welcome is the beginning of the end of LCA2006.
